ARS along with People First of New Ulm in collaboration with Open Arts Minnesota partnered to host a Disability Pride Art Workshop as we ramp up for July and Disability Pride Month. The evening began with a workshop discussion about disability history and disability justice, touched a bit on the Disability Pride Flag and what each color represents and culminated with a message about how and why art is so important and moving as we tell our individual stories. Of course, no event would be complete without food!….so a pizza party with a cookie buffet was hosted for food and fellowship. The evening then ended with an amazing self-portrait abstract painting/collage project dreamed up by our fabulously talented friend, Rhonda Johnson.
To top all of this off….yes, there is more! We are collaborating with The Grand and Ulm Sweet Ulm who are kindly offering gallery space to display our art. (Stay tuned to our website,

Thank you to all of the self-advocates, allies, participants, support staff and family members who made last night one to remember.
This is just the beginning!

Friends! The greatest thing happened on Tuesday. Representatives from First United Methodist Church of New Ulm stopped in to visit and check out what we do at ARS and left us with an extremely generous donation of $1,000 from the Living Trust Fund of their church. These dollars are already hard at work helping us continue to have fun, be social, enjoy our community and maybe even learn a thing or two! If you see these special ladies or anyone from the church, please thank them for their generosity and trust in our mission at ARS.
